A Look At The History
The credit for the building of this wonderful art college should go to those families who had made big money during the early 1860s in trading in textiles with China and also other activities such as retailing and railroads buildings and so on. They wanted to have some development coming into Massachusetts from the long term perspective. They also wanted to give a boost to art and technology learning and they pressed the authorities for the need of a good quality art college. This started the process of the dream becoming a reality and the art college was constructed in the year 1874.
It Offers a variety of courses covering the entire gamut of classical art and design. It also is considered to be one of the best colleges in the country offering high-quality courses for those who wish to pursue a career in 2D and 3D art and design. There are a number of graduation course and this includes an elective course covering studio and other areas of multiple and critical studies.
The Breakup Of Student Strength
True to American tradition, the MassArt college has a diverse collection of student strength. It would be pertinent to mention that 30% of the student body is from Asia, Africa, Hispanic and Latino amongst others. There are also many students from the Native American background apart from various other multiracial backgrounds. Hence it would not be out of place to mention here that it is a college that well and truly represents the cross-section of the country and also across the world.
Celebrations And Traditions
There are many events which keep happening in this college. It may not be possible to list down each one of them. However, we will try and look at some of the celebrations which are considered popular. The Iron Pour event is one such event and it is held four times a year. This event is all about pouring molten iron into molds and making sculptures out of it. This event is celebrated to the accompaniment of dance, music and other such performances. However, the size of the event was cut down quite significantly from 2019 onwards because of fire safety concerns raised by the local fire department.
